Marbling class October 19, 2024
October 19, 2024 from 10:30 am to 3:00pm
Location: Montebello
Teacher: Rosemary Wall
Total of student: 12
Additional details will be sent a week before the event.
Marbling is a fun and creative way to make free-flowing designs that can later be used
in other crafts, collage or as a unique artwork. It’s a very old craft, first emerging in parts of Asia more than a thousand years ago.
In marbling, paint is floated upon a solution, manipulated with various tools then
transferred to paper, fabric, wood or leather. You don’t always know exactly how it will
come out but the results are always fascinating. In the workshop we will cover the basic
technique, learn how to do a few traditional designs and then you can make you own
personal designs. At the end of the class you should have some very interesting works
on paper and fabric.
The basic materials will be supplied as well as paper and a small wooden box or
wooden panel for each student.

The teacher
Bio: Rosemary Wall is an artist living in Montreal. She has been painting for many
decades and has exhibited across Canada and also in Japan, selling paintings
under the name of Rose Wark. In 2014 she started “Silkraft”, designing scarves
using marbling, shibori and block printing.
She took part in a performance art, “The Colour of Music”, integrating colour and
music. Her marbling designs have been used in a
light show in a Cirque du Soleil performance
planned for Istanbul.
Each scarf is totally unique. There is an organic
look to the free-flowing forms and subtly mixed
colours of the designs generated by marbling.
Silk is a wonderful fabric for marbling. Its
smooth texture shows all the fine detail
perfectly.
